Research Day Brings Students of All Ages (Research Day in the media...)

On behalf of Dean Williams and the Graduate College, thank you for your participation in the First Student Research and Performance Day.

Sponsored by the Graduate College, Honors College, K20 Center, and Graduate Student Senate, the Student Research and Performance Day was held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 in the National Weather Center.

More than 60 graduate students from 29 departments presented their research through the use of portfolios, posters and slide and video shows. In addition, 10 participants from elementary schools demonstrated their findings on rocks, minerals, magnets and other projects. The undergraduate students gave presentations on their research in the classrooms.

Below are the judges' decisions from Saturday’s competition.

Category of Education and the Professions:
1st place – Vanessa Sherk
2nd place – Kathy Wheat
3rd place – Jennifer Lancaster

Category of Engineering:
1st place – Lee Elizondo
2nd place – Daniel Flippo
3rd place – Dimitrios Argyris

Category of Social Science, Fine Arts and Humanities:
1st place – Sonya Conner
2nd place – Tiffany Jenson
3rd place – Julia Daine

Category of Science:
1st place – Timothy Alberts
2nd place – Daminda Dahanayaka
3rd place – Kristin Kuhlman

People’s Choice Awards presented by The Graduate Student Senate
#1:  Julia Daine, "Foreign Film - Creating Cultural Awareness and Understanding".  Julia is in
Liberal Studies.

#2: Kelly Mitchell/Christina Reese for their poster presentation, "Internet Communication Model".  Kelly and Christina are in Journalism/Communication.
