Janis Paul earned her B.A. degree in English from the University of Miami, her M.A. in English from Case Western Reserve University, and her Ph.D. in English from Rice University. She is the author of The Victorian Heritage of Virginia Woolf and other publications. At the University of Oklahoma since 1985, she has taught literature, English as a Second Language, and writing.
In 1988 she became the first Director of the Center for English as a Second Language, and in 1990 she instituted the English Assessment Program, which certifies the English skills of non-native instructors at the University. As Assistant Dean of the Graduate College, she is involved in all areas of graduate education, with special interests in international issues, academic integrity, and program quality.
