General Business

  • The minutes from June 5, 2007 were approved.
  • There was an introduction of members after which Dean Williams explained the purpose of the Graduate Council and how it is structured to govern graduate studies at the University.

Program Modifications

  • The Engineering Master of Science proposed program modification was approved.  The changes will make the program more uniform by specifying the coursework and other requirements.  The new program will not, however, eliminate the interdisciplinary aspect of the program.
  • The Engineering PhD proposed program modification was approved.  The new program will require more specific coursework and other requirements which will make it more uniform and focused.  It will not, however, eliminate the interdisciplinary aspect of the program.
  • The Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum M. Ed. proposed program modification was withdrawn.
  • The Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum PhD proposed program modification was withdrawn.
  • The Master of Music Theory proposed program modification was approved.  The changes will make the program more specific and focused, which will more directly aim toward the objectives of the degree.

Interdisciplinary Degree Program

  • Wei Guan’s proposed interdisciplinary degree program was tabled.  It was determined that the proposed courses are those required for a PhD in Math, which eliminates the need for an interdisciplinary degree.  It was not clear, however, that her dissertation topic fits the Math degree.
